Officers of the Bishop Ignatius Reynolds Council #3684 of the Knights of Columbus, Aiken, South Carolina, instituted Sunday, July 19, 1953, left to Right: Joseph J. Monahon, Advocate; John F. LaBonte, Treasurer; Jack L. Allen, Trustee; Paul T. Ferriter, Deputy Grand Knight; Rt. Rev. Msgr. George Lewis Smith, Chaplain; Paul J. Hagelston, Grand Knight; E. Leo Hayes, Trustee; Nathaniel Stetson, Chancellor; Al J. Baumann, South Carolina State Deputy; Paul M. Villa, Inside Guard; Patrick J. Selak, Warden; Harry P. Young, Recorder; Elmer P. Foster, Financial Secretary; Joseph Trihey, District Deputy; and John W. Horne, Outside Guard. Not present: Fred E. Warren, Lecturer and C. W. Satchell, Trustee.
The Aiken Council #3684 of the Knights of Columbus was originally chartered in July 1953 as the Bishop Ignatius A. Reynolds Council. "As a result of the death of Monsignor George Lewis Smith, in 1987, the Council and Assembly (by joint resolution on August 12, 1987) changed their names from "Bishop Ignatius A. Reynolds" to "Monsignor George Lewis Smith" to honor this priest's long and devoted service to God, Church, and Council."
